Obituary of Edna Doak

Coffeyville - Edna Mae Doak, 91, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday (February 24, 2007) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born November 12, 1915 in rural Montgomery County to Arthur Clinton and Maude Mae (James) Whitaker. She grew up and attended school through the 9th grade in Montgomery County, in 1930 she moved to Chetopa with her parents where she completed her education graduating from Chetopa High School in 1933. Before her marriage she worked for the Federal Government as a secretary and accountant in Topeka, KS, and various other towns in Southeast Kansas. On July 5, 1940, she married Clarence R. "Hal" Doak of Parsons, KS at Cassville, Missouri. Following their marriage they made their home in Parsons until her husband's retirement from the Ordnance Department of the Army in 1958 when they moved to Coffeyville. After returning to Coffeyville Edna worked as Secretary to the President of Condon National Bank for 25 years retiring in 1983. Mr. Doak preceded her in death on April 5, 1971. Mrs. Doak was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville, she was a former Deacon at her church, she was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years and was a Past President of Parsons, Kansas Unit, a lifetime member of Progress Chapter #49, O.E.S. in Parsons, and was Past President of Parsons Assembly #84, Social Order of Beaucent, in Parsons having been a member for over 50 years. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Hulsey of Coffeyville, KS, and Ruth Martin of Derby, KS; a step-daughter of California and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (March 3, 2007) in the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Larry W. Cracraft officiating. Graveside services will at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons, KS. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family requests memorials to the Shriners Children's Hospital or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
