Obituary of Jean Etta Scott

Jean Etta Scott, age 90, formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.   Jean was born on October 18, 1930 in Independence, Kansas to Irving and Doris (Dillon) Pond.  She grew up in Derby, Kansas where she attended grade school.  The family moved to Caney, Kansas where Jean graduated from Caney High School.  She moved to Coffeyville in the early 1950's.  During high school she worked at the Caney Theater making popcorn, she later worked at Exner Dodge in Coffeyville.   On April 26, 1953 she married the love of her life, Vernon Wm Scott.  The couple made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their  children.  In addition to tending to the kids and home, Jean also worked several years at Dixon Industries as the Executive Secretary.   Jean was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Bartlesville and an active member of the Green Country Republican Women's Club.  While in Coffeyville she was a long time member of the First Baptist Church where she served at the church assistant secretary and Sunday School secretary.  She was also an active mother in the PTA, Cub Scouts and a Blue Bird Leader.  She was a member of the CRMC Auxiliary  and received "Volunteer of the Year" in 2008 for her dedicated service to the CRMC Auxiliary and was an avid Red Ravens Basketball fan.   Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Amy Rogers of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, John Scott and wife, Paulette of Spring, Texas; grandchildren, Kathryn Rogers and fiancé, Chad Henson of Owasso, Oklahoma, Steven Rogers and wife, Jill of Norman, Oklahoma, Rebecca Beard and husband, Robert of Wichita, Kansas, Joel Holder, Gary Sanchez and wife, Jenny; great-grandchildren, Sophia Caulkins, John Rogers, Paul Rogers, Daniel Rogers and Thomas Beard; sister, Jane Beach and husband, Loye of Wichita, Kansas; thirty nieces and nephews along with several other close relatives and many friends.  Jean  was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Doris Pond; loving husband, Vernon Scott; son, Bill Scott; son-in-law, Terry A. Rogers; siblings, Austin (Connie) Pond, Carol (Harry) Payne and Joella(Donald) Fuqua.   Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Highland Baptist Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  Pastor Mike Scrivani will officiate.   Interment will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.  Pastor Dick Smith will officiate.   Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.  The family will greet friends on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.   The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Tatman Cancer Center at CRMC, Gideons International or to the CCC Alumni Center; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
