Obituary of Gene R. Wheeler

Gene R. Wheeler, 82, of Gooding, Idaho, formerly of Coffeyville went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2021 at Gooding, Idaho. Gene was born on July 29, 1938 in Coffeyville to George R. and Leila Juanita (Slaton) Wheeler. Gene grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. On March 3, 1967 he married Charlotte Anne Starkey in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Following their marriage they lived in several different locations including overseas while Gene served his country. After receiving his discharge Gene worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad as freight car inspector and repairman until retiring in July 2000. Following his retirement they moved to Coffeyville. Gene attended Dearing Christian Church. He enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his family. Survivors include his children, Teresa Bosteder of Gooding , Idaho, Lewis Wheeler of Gooding, Idaho and Juanita Cline of Alamogordo, New Mexico; three brothers, Lauren Wheeler of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Charles Wheeler of San Diego, California, and Patrick Wheeler of Layton, Utah; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Charlotte on July 13, 2019.. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville with Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Friends may call on Monday, June 28th from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
