Obituary of Jon R Jabben

Please share a memory of Jon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jon Ronald Jabben, age 71, of Tyro, Kansas passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at his home. Jon was born on February 2, 1950 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Werner and Ruth (Ellison) Jabben. He grew up in rural Jefferson, Kansas where he attended school and graduated from Wayside High School. Jon furthered his education at Coffeyville Community College where he earned his Associates Degree. On July 11, 1975 he married the love of his life, Cheryle Kay Mason in Tyro, Kansas at Tyro Christian Church. The couple made their home in Dearing, Kansas for two years until moving to Tyro where they made their forever home. The couple had two children that Jon adored, Josh and Kylee. The family were members of the Tyro Christian Church and attended church regularly. Jon was a hard worker and was good with his hands. He spent his career at John Deere Works (formerly Funk Manufacturing) in Coffeyville, Kansas where he worked as a skilled fabricator and machinist. He retired on May 30, 2014 after 44 years of service. Jon loved the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed camping, spending time on the farm, hiking, and most of all bow hunting. He ran a bowhunting supply shop "Jon's Bowhunting Supply" for several years out of his workshop in Tyro where people would come to have custom arrows, bow strings, etc., or just to chat and admire his craftsmanship. He was a member of the Oklahoma Longbowmen club for more than 38 years. The group got together for outings, camping and hunting trips and much more. He was proficient in all things archery and made all his own archery equipment and materials. This included making longbows, arrows, quivers, etc. He was a very gifted craftsman and was also great with metal work and fabrication. He was quick witted, funny and loved telling corny "dad jokes". He was an avid reader and enjoyed country music and bluegrass festivals. Most of all Jon loved surrounding himself with his family and friends. In addition to the bond he shared with Cheryle, being a dad and papa was of the upmost importance. With that, came a special relationship with each of his kids and grandkids. He loved them unconditionally and cherished those relationships. Jon touched the lives of all those who knew him and will be deeply missed. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cheryle Jabben of the home; son, Joshua Jabben and wife, Jennifer (Fowler) of Deerfield, Illinois; daughter, Kylee (Jabben) Stallsmith and husband, Mark of Havana, Kansas; grandsons, Noah Jabben, Owen Jabben; granddaughters, Emma Jabben, Harper Stallsmith, Jentry Stallsmith; brother, Joe Jabben and wife, Toni of Golden, Missouri; sister, Susan (Jabben) Rea and husband, Marc of Coffeyville, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and close friends like his Oklahoma Longbowmen brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Werner and Ruth Jabben. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, Kansas.
