Obituary of Cecil L. "C.L." McRay

Cecil Lawrence "C.L." McRay, age 85, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Wilson Medical Center in Neodesha, Kansas. C.L. was born on October 20, 1935 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Jessie and Edith (Huffman) McRay. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley High School. He worked as a machinist in Tulsa for Airplane Manufacturing Company. In May of 1980 he married Shirley Childers in Coffeyville. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where together they owned and operated Sunflower Cleaners and Edgewood Floral. C.L. attended Trinity United Methodist Church for a time. He was a former member of the Machinist Union. He enjoyed remodeling and flipping houses. He liked to go fishing and panning for gold. Most of all he loved his family and the time he spent at family gatherings or surrounded by his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley McRay of the home; children, Mary Ann Vaughn and husband, Allen, Elizabeth Smith, and Nancy McRay; step children, Teresa Osborne and husband, Kevin, Kyle Bromley, Dirk Bromley and wife, Kathy, and Kwin Bromley and wife, Sarah all of Coffeyville; one sister, Lynn Johnson of Coffeyville; six grandkids and 6 step grandkids; seven great grandkids; along with many, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. C.L. was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Edith McRay; grandsons, Logan Smith and Zach Bromley; brothers, Willis McRay and Lloyd McRay; sisters, Charlotte Felton and Margie Thompson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. No public services have been scheduled at this time.
