Dolores “Dee” Gabriela Kitterman, age 80, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas. Dee was born on February 27, 1941 in Independence, Kansas to Inez and Socorro (Mendoza) Ortiz. She grew up in Independence where she attended local schools and graduated high school. In 1959 she was united in marriage to Paul Laporte, of that union, four children were born. The couple later divorced. On June 30, 1972 she married Roy Kitterman in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in February 2010. Dee loved caring for her family and her home. In addition to raising her family she also worked for the Coffeyville Journal starting in the mailroom working as a supervisor then transferred to the circulation department where she was manager of that department. She later went to work as a Para for the school district and she loved helping her special needs students. Dee was a loving, caring and giving woman who will be missed by all those that knew her. Some of her hobbies were quilting, sewing, crafting, camping, fishing and boating. She loved most of all the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Tina Alvidrez and husband, David of Coffeyville, Kansas, Charley Laporte and wife, Kristi of Pleasanton, Kansas, Maria Hensley and husband, Terry of Coffeyville, Kansas, Debi Dick and husband, Corey of Collinsville, Oklahoma; Roy’s daughters, Chris Cravens and husband, Charlie of Winfield, Kansas, Cindy Simon and husband, Kevin of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Jesse Ortiz and wife, Judy of Independence, Kansas, Raul Alcantar of Topeka, Kansas; several nieces, nephews; extended relatives and friends. Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Socorro Ortiz; loving husband, Roy Kitterman; granddaughter, Sydney Elizabeth Tracy and Roy’s son, Randy Kitterman; brother, Larry Ortiz; sister, Catalina Ervin and brother, Carlos Alcantar. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for friends and family to come and go throughout the day to view and sign the guest register. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Patio at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Pastor Mark Wilson will officiate. The family suggests those that are attending the service could wear something purple to show support of Alzheimer's awareness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Dolores' name be made to the Alzheimer's Association; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd. Coffeyville, KS 67337.
