Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen (Frankenberger) Owen, 93, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2021, at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville, Kansas with her daughters by her side. Kathleen, also known as "K," Katie, Mom, Nana, "K," and Aunt "K" was born July 7th, 1928 in Atchinson, Kansas, along with her twin, Athlene "A" (Frankenberger) Crattie to Charles Hill and Myrtle Josepha (Shattuck) Frankenberger. She was the last of eleven children. In 1936 her father was transferred to Coffeyville with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. She attended Holy Name School and graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1946.
She met Frank Joseph Owen in 1945, who had returned from serving in WWII. They were engaged at Christmas and were married on June 17th, 1946 at Holy Name Catholic Church and made their home in Coffeyville for 23 years while raising their three daughters; Jo Lynn, Judy and Jane. Mom was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Altar Society, PTA, and a Blue Bird and Brownie Leader.
Mom and dad moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1969. While in Tulsa, she was a care-giver, worked for an opinion polling company, Rathbone Gifts, and the downtown Renberg's Department store in menswear. In April of 1980, the love of her life passed away unexpectedly while visiting in Coffeyville. She continued to live in Tulsa and Claremore where she volunteered as an American Cancer Society "Reach-to-Recovery" volunteer as she was a twenty-eight-year survivor. She moved back to Coffeyville in the 1990's to be near her daughters and grandchildren. She worked for "Read's Ready-to-Wear" and "Rae's" until she retired.
Mom was an avid bridge player and played in several bridge groups. She loved to play board games and especially Yahtzee with her grandchildren. She loved to read newspapers, especially the Tulsa World and discuss current events and stories with many friends and family. She also read all the Jack Reacher novels and any other books she could get her hands on. She followed the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Kansas City Royals very closely. She also loved music, dancing with Frank, and loved roller skating. She was one of the first to repurpose furniture and was quite the decorator. She hosted many family reunions during her lifetime. She loved being with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are: three daughters, all of Coffeyville, and their families, Jo (and Jim) Falkner, Judy (and Donnie deceased) Hanna, Jane (and Paul) Vesey. Grandchildren; Dan Hamrick of Dewey, Oklahoma, Heidi (Hamrick) Cunningham of Wichita, Kansas, Brock Hanna of Coffeyville, Chad Hanna of Joplin, Missouri, Matt (and Misty) Vesey of Coffeyville, Will (and Jenny) Vesey of Gardner, and one step-grandson, Ryan Falkner of Plano, Texas.; Great-grandchildren Jessika, Dezirae, and Hailey Hamrick, Tanner Cunningham, Zack (and Samantha) Hanna, Dylan (and Felicia) Hanna, and Emalie Hanna, Tyler and Tucker Vesey, Adison, Baylor, Easton and Collins Vesey.
