Obituary of William Layne Oliphant

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Layne Oliphant, known as Bill, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 5, 2021 in Coffeyville Kansas Where he had recently relocated. His health had been in decline for the past couple of years. He was 65 years of age and a former resident of the Chanute/Humboldt area. Bill was born on October 27, 1956 at Neosho Memorial Hospital to Owen and Nellie (Eby) Oliphant. Bill never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone who knew him. He attended school in Humboldt and Chanute. Bill enjoyed life and traveled all over the U.S., marching to the beat of his own drum. At times he lived life on the edge but never gave up his faith in God and Savior Jesus. If you knew him at all you would have debated the bible with him and would have also seen his beloved Dog Stakk, who Bill took everywhere. In October 1982 he married Sandra Hougardy from Thayer, KS. To this union was born Andrea Oliphant and Bradley Oliphant. He loved his kids and did the best for them that he could. Bill passed on his talent of music, the love of harmonica and guitar to his son Brad and Daughter, Andrea. But the apples of his eye were his grandchildren, Neveah, Nadia, Joseph and Reyna. Joseph in particular was close to Grandpa and He was quickly becoming an accomplished harmonica player. Bill not only loved his Children and grandchildren but was a loving son and brother. If Bill had a dime, he would share it with you. He loved cooking for the family and was good at it too. Bill is survived by his daughter, Andrea of Chanute, KS., his son Bradley of Chanute, KS.; his mother, Nellie Oliphant; brothers Lynn, Tom, Stacy, Ron; Sisters Jeanie and Alta; and 4 grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his father Owen Oliphant in 2011 and his Brother S.W. Oliphant in 2016. As one of his friends put in their condolences, "Bill was a good friend and a Mountain of a Man". This world lost a sincere soul, he will be missed but not forgotten. For now we will say, See you Soon Bill….all your questions have been answered. Amos 3:3 Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be posted in the paper and social media. To leave a message for the family please visit www.dwbfh.com.
