Billie C. Potter, 78, formerly of Sedan, passed away Thursday (January 25, 2007) in Madison, Alabama.
He was born October 31, 1928 at Elgin, Kansas to Leon and Lettie (Johnson) Potter. He grew up in Chautauqua County, attending school at Elgin and Chautauqua graduating from Chautauqua High School in 1946.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On April 2, 1953 he married M. Elouise Stephens at Sedan. Following their marriage they lived in Oklahoma where Bill was employed by Phillips Petroleum managing service stations, they later returned to Sedan where he operated Bill's Texaco for several years, until returning to school and receiving a degree in drafting. After completing drafting school he accepted a position with Litwin Corp. in Wichita as Drafting Engineer working on oil refinery projects throughout the U.S. and several foreign countries, he retired in 1987 and they returned to the Sedan area where they lived until moving to Madison, Alabama in 2006.
Bill was a member of the First Christian Church in Sedan and Vesper-Olive Masonic Lodge #136 in Sedan.
Survivors include his wife, Elouise of the home in Madison, AL; two sons, Dwight Potter of Madison, AL, and Duane Potter of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Sharon Anderson of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Johnnie Potter of Sperry, OK, and Larry Potter of Cushing, OK; two sisters, Mildred Freeman of Sedan, and Marietta Sumter of Glencoe, OK; twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Karen Dechant in 1992, and one brother, Franklin Potter.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (January 29, 2007) in the First Christian Church in Sedan with Rev. Penny Goldberg and Rev. Orel Newbrey officiating. Burial will be in Moore Prairie Cemetery west of Sedan.
Friends may call on Sunday (January 28, 2007) from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
