Obituary of Etta LuVon Gaut

Etta LuVon (Eaton) Gaut was born June 23, 1941, in Clovis, New Mexico to Emil Ray Eaton and Mabel Marylene (Jones) Michel. She was the second of five children born to the couple. Etta Lu passed away December 25, 2021, at Azria Health Wichita where she was receiving rehabilitation care after an auto accident on November 7, 2021. She attended school in Ranchvale, New Mexico until her family moved to a ranch south of Matheson, Colorado in 1947. There she attended grade school at Kuntz and Matheson. She was a junior at Simla High School when she left school to marry Clyde "Red" Myatt in October 1957. They moved to Newcastle, Texas and lived there briefly before moving back to Simla, Colorado. In August 1958, they welcomed a daughter, Cheryl, and in August 1959, they welcomed their son, Norvil. Simla remained their home until 1975, when they moved to Hugo, Colorado. After 20 years of marriage, Red and Etta Lu were divorced in 1977. She married Carl Gaut in January 1978, in Denver, Colorado. They made their home in Hugo, Colorado, Denver, Colorado, Diamond, Missouri, Elk City, Kansas, back to Diamond, Missouri and lived there until Carl's illness made it necessary to sell their home and move to Cheryl's home in Coffeyville, Kansas in 2012. After the passing of Carl, Etta Lu and Cheryl continued living in Coffeyville, Kansas until October 2017 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas to live with Cheryl's son and daughter-in-law, Chance and Nedra Myatt. In the early years of her marriage, Etta Lu worked at the Roundup Cafe in Simla, the Lasater Ranch in Matheson, Colorado, and cooked at Simla Schools. In 1971, she and Red bought the Roundup Cafe, changing the name to Myatt's Cafe, and owned and operated that until 1975. In 1975, she went into business with her sister Gayle Franek with The Eaton Place in Hugo, Colorado. Gayle and Etta Lu sold the restaurant in 1979 and Carl and Etta Lu moved to Diamond, Missouri. Etta and Carl worked for Jefferson Bus Lines before buying a food concession trailer and starting C&E Concessions and began playing with different carnivals, city festivals, and even Walmart parking lots! In addition to the food trailer, they also had a roller coaster and game trailer, which they did for 26 years. They briefly owned Dar's Bar in Elk City, Kansas, and then moved back to Diamond, Missouri. Carl retired and Etta Lu went to work for J.C. Penney's for 10 years before retiring. Etta also volunteered for different hospice organizations during this time and continued to do that after moving to Coffeyville, Kansas. Etta Lu loved people and traveling. She enjoyed her time being a Girl Scout leader, Rebekah, and was a big supporter of her children and grandchildren. She was a caretaker to her daughter, husband, ex-husband, sister, brother, grandmother, mother, aunts, father, and numerous friends. Her compassion was one of a kind. She is survived by her children: Cheryl Myatt of Wichita, Kansas, son and daughter-in-law, Norvil and Pam Myatt of Eaton, Colorado, Faye and Rocky Mason of Hugoton, Kansas and Connie Gaut of Pueblo, Colorado. Sisters: Gayle Franek of Denver, Colorado, and Renee and Todd Brimmer of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Laura Eaton of Amarillo, Texas. Grandchildren: Courtney and Alonzo Chunn of Fort Collins, Colorado, Chance and Nedra Myatt of Wichita, Kansas, Brett and Kathy Myatt of Eaton, Colorado, Wade and Ashley Myatt of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kurtis and Amanda Mason of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Kelly and Lance Frazier of Hugoton, Kansas, Nicole and Rick Maes of Pueblo, Colorado, and Josh and Vanessa Gaut of McClave, Colorado. Great-grandchildren: Makenna and Kade Chunn, Evelyn, Roselynn, Timothy, Theodore, and Thatcher Myatt, Camdyn, Adriann, and Jeremiah Myatt, Reed and Konner Mason, Lane Stand and Madison Frazier, Marissa, Marcus and Morgan Maes, Bristol, Alyssa and Hendrix Gaut. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Etta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl Gaut, ex-husband Clyde Myatt, sister Frankie Boese, brother Bennie Eaton, son Dwayne Gaut, great-niece Megan Boese, niece in-law Jessica Curtis, and great-nephews, Cayden and Parker Eaton. A celebration of life will be held at Maize United Methodist Church, 208 E Academy Ave, Maize, KS 67101, on February 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with burial pending at a later date at Simla Cemetery, Simla, Colorado.
