Obituary of Marie Carson

Marie Carson, age 76, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at her home. Marie was born on February 4, 1945, in Coffeyville, Kansas to Paul and Della (Harrison) Starrett. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School. She went on to attend classes at Coffeyville Community College. On June 21, 1963, she was united in marriage to her husband, Lynn Carson at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. The couple made Coffeyville their home. They had two children, Troy and Tracy. In addition to taking care of the house and kids, Marie also worked as an office manager for several years at various industries in Coffeyville. Marie was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville and was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She enjoyed painting, sewing, cross stitch, gardening, cycling, running, traveling and learning as much as she could about her Cherokee Indian heritage that she was so proud to be a part of. Surviving to honor her memory are her children, Troy Carson and wife, Robin of Pittsburg, Kansas, Tracy Carson-Duke of Coffeyville, Kansas; grandchildren, Zack Wood, Alex Carson, Sabrina Duke, Sheldon Duke, Skyler Duke and Squire Duke; great grandchildren, Zarrah, Ace, Aspyn and Starr Wood; brother, Larry Starrett and wife, Lisa of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister-in-law, Berlene Mohler of Humboldt, Kansas, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Starrett and Della Starrett-Price; sister, Pauline Starrett-Maxson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p. m. at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Pastor Dick Smith will officiate. Eastern Star Rites will be provided by the Independence Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Following Marie’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service and a private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville.
