Obituary of Maralee Hastings

Please share a memory of Maralee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maralee Hastings was born Maralee Marie Hanes April 9, 1925 in Coffeyville, KS. She was the oldest of five children. When her mother passed away at a young age, Maralee took on the responsibilities of the household. She married Rodney Hastings Nov. 30, 1945. They bought property southeast of Coffeyville, built a house, had four children, and participated in school, community and 4-H activities. Maralee and Rodney loved to go dancing. After retirement, they also traveled quite a bit. Maralee was not just a homemaker. She had a small business buying and selling movie star photos. This created friendships with people around the world. Early in her life, she worked at KGGF Radio. As the kids got older, she became a bookkeeper at HW Reed department store. Later she took a similar position at Parmac and worked there about 15 years. Rodney died in 1997, but Maralee stayed on the homestead tending her gardens while appreciating the peaceful surroundings and great neighbors. In 2015, she went to assisted living. She died Jan 27, 2022, in Wichita, KS, at the age of 96, with family beside her. Maralee was preceded in death by husband Rodney, brother Don and sisters Wanda, Shirley and Janice. Still alive and kicking are daughter Leona of Lolo, MT, Sons Richard (Karolyn) of Oklahoma City, Jim (Jan) of Gillette, WY and Mike of Wichita, KS. Also, Grandchildren Jessica (Lucas) Madsen of Littleton, CO, Andrea (Matt) Arrollo of Laramie, WY and Adam (Kylee) of Gillette, WY plus six great grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Maya, Conner, Lucille and Oliver. A Memorial Service celebrating Maralee's life for family and friends will be announced at a later date. The family suggests memorials to Coffeyville Friends of Animals, contributions may left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337
