Obituary of Barbara Jean Powers

Barbara Jean Powers, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville, Kansas. Barbara was born on October 26, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri to Jerome and Ethel Gilmore. She grew up in Kansas City where she attended local schools. She met and fell in love with Billy Gene Powers, Sr. The two were united in marriage in 1960 in Kansas City where they made their home. They couple had nine children. Billy preceded her in death in 2004. In addition to helping take care of the home and kids, Barbara worked for Ford Motor in assembly for several years. Her hobbies were painting and arts and crafts. She later met her companion of several years, Eddie. He too preceded her in death in 2015. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, David Powers of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris Powers of Dixon, Missouri, Billy Powers and companion, Donald Bruce of Coffeyville, Kansas, Cynthia Powers of Coffeyville, Kansas, Jerry Powers, Annie Powers of Sedalia, Missouri, Melissa Powers of Springfield, Missouri and Richard Powers of Camden, Missouri, nineteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, her companion, David of Coffeyville, three sisters, Anne, Betty and Mary along with numerous extended relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Ethel Gilmore, former husband, Billy Powers, Sr., a daughter, Lisa Powers, former companion, Eddie and one brother. A final viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Following Barbara's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Fund; these may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home 306 N. Cline Rd.
