Obituary of Jo'an Barg

Elizabeth Joan (Jo’an) Barg, age 87 of Coffeyville, Kansas went to join her beloved husband in Heaven on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Joan was born on August 31, 1934, in Eureka, Kansas to Thomas and Esther (Elliott) Downing. She graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Kansas. On June 12, 1955, she married the love of her life Mark Galen Barg in Eureka, Kansas. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Eureka area, until moving to Coffeyville. Joan was a homemaker she also helped Mark operate the Sonics that they owned for several years. She enjoyed doing crafts and decorating but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed many years of square dancing with her husband. She volunteered with the Culture Arts Center and the Brown Mansion. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and a chartered member of Westside Christian Church in Coffeyville. Left to treasure her memory are two sons Eric Barg of Indio, California and Randy Barg and daughter-in-law Lona of Coffeyville, two grandchildren, Amanda Akins and husband Chris of Coffeyville, and Kristofer Barg of Coffeyville, two great-grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Akins of Coffeyville, brother Jack Downing of Eureka, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Jim Downing, and sister Jeannine Ruth. Honoring Joan’s wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of David W Barnes Funeral Home. A Memorial Service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Westside Christian Church with Pastor Mike Elrod officiating.
