Randall "Randy" Dale Mellen, 69, of Havana, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on September 7, 1952, at Neodesha, Kansas to James LeRoy and Marie Lucille (Seller) Mellen. Randy grew up in Havana where he attended grade school. He attended Wayside High School for two years and graduated from Caney Valley High School in Caney, Kansas in1970. He later attended and graduated from Tulsa Welding School. On February 12, 1972, he married Linda Ann Baughman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline, Kansas. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Caney and Havana area. Randy was employed as a pipeline welder for Cities Service, Williams Company and Southern Star for 32 years working in divisions based in Wichita, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Joplin, and Caney. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Randy started his music career at the age of 13 playing the bass guitar. He was a member of several groups including Coachman, Mavericks, Whiskey River, and Against the Wind Bands. Randy so enjoyed the Christmas season and sharing the persona of the jolly old man in the big red suit to the delight of countless children and several generations. But his greatest joy was being surrounded by is family. Survivors include his wife, Linda Mellen of the home; his son, Nathan Mellen and wife, Regina of Skiatook, Oklahoma; his daughter, Theresa Moore of Caney, Kansas; one brother, Curtis Mellen of Edna, Kansas, eight grandchildren, Madeline, Catherine, Gwendolynn, James, Christian, Gabrielle, Joshua of the home, and Gracie; and four great-grandchildren, Sapphire, Xion, Alice and Bella; a very special aunt, Viola Waldron; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Howard Mellen; and one sister, Janice Hook and her husband, Charles. A Rosary Prayer Service will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Schibi officiating. Burial will follow in El Cado Cemetery west of Caney. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 24th from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials in Randy's memory to Holy Name Catholic School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W.
