Obituary of Midori Arai Allred

Please share a memory of Midori to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Midori Arai Allred age 88 of Coffeyville passed away on May 23, 2022 at her home with her husband at her side. Midori was born on October 30, 1933 in Ikaho, Gumma-Ken, Japan and was the daughter of Shigeo and Hiroko Arai. She was raised and attended school in Ikaho until she met William (Bill) Allred at a dance hosted by the American Red Cross while Bill was stationed there. You could say it was love at first sight and they began dating. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1958 in Japan and that same year Bill returned home to Coffeyville with his wife Midori. The couple was blessed with a son and while the family was living in Concord, California they were blessed with a daughter. In 1968 they moved back to Coffeyville where Midori found employment in the kitchen at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Midori loved to cook, and she loved when people enjoyed her food, she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, walking, riding her bike, and spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a truly brave woman who proudly became a citizen, learned our language, and learned and adapted to our culture. She was determined and strong willed person to say the least, a bit outspoken always telling it as it was. Midori’s memories live on with her husband Bill, her children, Gary Lee Allred and his wife Cindy from Katy, Texas and Wendy Leigh Skidmore and her husband Jeff from Overland Park, Kansas. She loved and was "Ging Ging" to her grandchildren - Melanie Allred, Braden Allred, Hannah Rolleston and her husband Joe, and Elizabeth Skidmore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shigeo and Hiroko Arai and her in-laws that were like her parents here in the states Solan and Arvilla Allred. Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Veteran’s Memorial Patio at Fairview Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Keith Springer officiating.
