Mario Linn Grant, age 50, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Mario was born on November 16, 1971, to William Loyd Ogans and Laura Lynn Bluitt in Independence, Kansas where he attended local schools and graduated from Independence High School. He furthered his education at Independence Community College and Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Mario worked for Acme Foundry as a weekend supervisor. He also spent his time as a football and basketball coach for Field Kindley High School, Roosevelt Junior High School and Coffeyville Rec Center. He loved sports "Rock Chalk" "Go Chiefs"! Mario's love for music was amazing, he knew pretty much every song and was an amazing singer. On September 1, 2012, he married the love of his life, Jaime Starnes. They enjoyed attending local sporting events, going on drives, reminiscing about their childhoods, and just being at home enjoying downtime with his loved ones and of course his dogs. Mario was loved by everyone who had the privilege of meeting him. His laughter and smile were infectious to all those around him. His selfless generosity with his time and wisdom will be cherished by many. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife and best friend, Jaime Grant of the home; sons, Sevan Grant of the home and Matthew Grant of Chicago, Illinois; one grandchild, Miguel; a brother, Napoleon Grant III of Pittsburg, Kansas, a half-sister, Carlotta Charles of Denver, Colorado; aunts, Rachel Bell, Alice Wilson; uncles, Donald Melugin, Jr. and Joseph Melugin all of Independence, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Bluitt, grandmother, Alice Melugin and half-sister, Gwen Ogans. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Dearing Christian Church. Pastor J B Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, at David W Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. The family will greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the FKHS Athletics Booster Club; these can be left with the funeral home or mailed in care of David W Barnes Funeral Home 306 N Cline Rd.
