Obituary of DeWayne Newton
Please share a memory of DeWayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Melvin DeWayne Newton age 79 of Tyro passed away on June 15, 2022 at his home with his family at his side.
DeWayne was born in Coffeyville on January 30 1943 to Melvin Arch and Maxine Loretta (Thomas) Newton. DeWayne was raised in the Coffeyville area and attended local schools graduating from Field Kindley High School. After high school he began working at Armstrong’s Ice Cream where he was the plant manager, he then went to work for ACME Foundry, the City of Coffeyville, and then retiring from Funk Manufacturing/John Deere. It was at Armstrong’s that DeWayne met the love of his life Shirley King. The couple were united in marriage on July 6, 1963, to this union they were blessed with a son and two daughters. DeWayne used to rodeo, bull riding and team roping, he enjoyed quail hunting with his dog, and absolutely loved fishing. He caught more bass and crappie than most people could imagine, he enjoyed fishing with family, with friends, and even by himself. He participated in many tournaments over the years and earned several trophies and plaques. DeWayne is a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and a 45-year member of the Tyro Christian Church. He was a quiet man with little to say but when he did speak you probably wanted to make sure you were listening. He loved singing in church and spending time with his grandchildren.
DeWayne’s memories will be forever cherished by his wife Shirley, his children; Mindy Browning and her husband Robert, Dub Newton and his wife Nita, and Melissa Robertson and her fiancé Justin Templeton, his brother, Thomas Newton, his sister, Stella Ferrell and her husband Kirby, grandchildren; Niki and Josh McClain, Michael and Emily Browning, Nick and Merra Brown, Zack and Sara Brown, Keith and Amber Coy, Damon and Allison Coy, Jordan and Easton Julian, and Grant Newton, 10 great-grandchildren with another coming in July and a great-great-grandchild also coming in July, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He now rests with his parents, grandparents that were like parents, William and Stella Thomas, and sister-in-law, Peach Newton.
