Sarah Edith Carpenter, age 105, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born September 13, 1901 in Marion County, Kansas to John William and Margaret (Shoemaker) Ford. She was the youngest of ten children. She moved to Sedan in 1916. She married Roy B. Carpenter on May 1, 1922 at the Chautauqua County Courthouse. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1964.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan since 1919 and had always been very active in the church.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Carpenter of Sedan, Kansas and Jack Carpenter of Peru, Kansas; three daughters, Geraldine Wilson of Elk City, Kansas, Dorothy Garret of Caney, Kansas, and Maxine Brim of Elgin, Kansas, and twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, five brothers and four sisters
Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
