Obituary of Celia Louise Bunyard
Please share a memory of Celia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Celia Louise Bunyard age 82 of rural Elk City, KS passed away on August 3,2022 at her home with the people she loved the most right by her side.
Celia was born March 14, 1940 in Wellington, KS the second oldest of seven to Cecil and Eunice (Siever) Lawless. She attended grammar school at Mt Zion and then graduated from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 58. After high school she started waiting tables at the turnpike. She then started working for various aircraft manufacturers, including Cessna, Boeing, Beechcraft, and Midwest. Celia also found employment in the cafeteria at Elk Valley Schools, and was the owner of the Arrowhead Café for several years.
On March 16, 1979 she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Bunyard. Celia enjoyed collecting red glass, fishing, reading her romance novels and other books about country music singers, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, spending time with her family, cooking and baking. She was a one of a kind cook and an even better baker. Her family knew if the tv was on a western, specifically Gunsmoke to not interrupt or be too loud. Celia was baptized in the Church of Christ, she was genuinely caring and loved deeply, and she was true to who she was and said what she thought.
Celia’s memories will live on with her husband Jim, her children; Kendria Schnug, Kenneth William Coatney Jr (Misty), Kent Lee Coatney (Karin), Jimmie Joe Bunyard (Vanessa), and Jamie Lee Bunyard (Jordan), her siblings; George Lawless (Vonnie), Phylis Vincent (Don) Evelyn Estes, Charles Lawless (Di), and Glenn Lawless (Brenda), grandchildren; Kandace, Kenny, Kevin, Keith, Keri, Vanessa, Alyssa, Rachelle, Ronni, Jenni, Jimmie, Troy, Nahima, Sammy, and Naomi, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She now rests with her parents, her brother that was lost in infancy Cecil Lawless, son-in-law Gary Schnug, grandson Steven Wehling, and great-grandson Kaden Scott Coatney.
Honoring Celia’s wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of David W. Barnes Funeral Home with no formal services being held.
