Mrs. Mary Emma Wilson, or "Mrs. Mary" as we refugee kids knew her, was a very generous person along with her husband, Dr. Jim Wilson.
In 1975 when the Vietnam War came to an end, Mrs. Mary joined the good doctor in sponsoring a family brimming with eight kids, mother, father, grandmother, and several aunts and uncles to come to Coffeyville and settle down in a farmhouse just outside of town. It was there that we put down roots, and it was there that we began to thrive as new Americans.
Mrs. Mary helped us kids go to school and learn a new language, and she also helped our parents find gainful employment and become self-supporting. She and her family devoted their time and money and much effort so that we could better our lives. Without a doubt, our lives are much better because we had Mrs. Mary in our lives.
Dr. Wilson and Mrs. Mary have our eternal gratitude.

Thanks to the person writing a very nice tribute to Mary. I remember her well. She was always interested in my love of books and asked me many times to help her organize her home library. Mary had many talents and knew what to do with a "city" girl like me. She is now at peace with the Lord.

Dear family and friends, I am deeply saddened by Mary's death as i had just seen her and Charlie at Braums only 3 weeks ago, and shared good memories of our working together at Dr Jim's office for about 7 years, Boys, and grandchildren,, your parents were great folks and highly respected and loved ! so very kind and loving , always had time to listen and care for everyone else, I am honored to have known and worked with them both and your mom will be truly missed by the whole community! so sorry for you loss, my sympathy and prayers and asking God to comfort each of during this sad time, God bless you all. When my husband and I moved in across the street from Mary, she immediately welcomed us with a bag of pecans. She later offered to plant flowers along the side of the house. I warned her I wasn't good at remembering to water flowers but figured Mike would take care of them. She did a beautiful job and asked nothing in return.

Mary was such a sweet lady. My mom (Bea Ellis) loved being neighbors with her & the many conversations they had. Neighborhood won't be the same.
