Reverend Edward L. Redfield, age 83, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, formerly of Sedan, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Carolina House of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
He was born March 16, 1923 in Carterville, Illinois to John Luther and Dora (Phillips) Redfield. He grew up and attended school in Carterville, Illinois. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He married Iola Arnold on February 14, 1949 in Alton, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Central American Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He ministered in Sedan at the United Methodist Church from 1968 until 1973. He retired from ministry in 1991 after serving as pastor in many other places in Kansas for thirty-six years. He was an avid supporter of all high school sports teams in the towns in which he lived.
He is survived by his wife Iola Redfield of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; two daughters, Karen Metcalf of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lisa Houck and husband Dave of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; two sisters; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; one brother and one granddaughter.
Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, January 8, 2007 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church of Sedan and these remembrances may be left with the funeral home.
