Margaret (Holroyd) Thompson, 90, a long time resident of Cedar Vale, died Friday, May 9, 2008 in Cedar Vale, Kansas.
She was born April 4, 1918 in Geuda Springs, Kansas to Madison and Lucile (Webb) Holroyd of Cedar Vale, Kansas. She went to country school (Bellew) close to Cedar Vale for the first six grades, followed by school attendance in Cedar Vale where she graduated in 1935. She attended the Fort Collins, Co. High School for her junior year. Her parents lived there for a brief time. She and Harold Thompson married in 1935, and lived most of the next 20 years in Borger, Texas. After their divorce in 1955, Margaret with her children returned to Cedar Vale. She worked in the Personnel Office at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center, from 1956 until 1980, when she retired. After her father died in 1972, she and her mother moved into the Webb house in Cedar Vale. It was a house built by Lucile Holroyd's father, where Margaret cared for her mother for several years.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Lynn and Karen Thompson of rural Cedar Vale, Kenneth and Joanne Thompson of Ontario, Canada, Judy and Jim Owens of Cedar Vale, Martha and Terry Timblin of Florissant, Missouri, Mark and Yetive Thompson of Attica, Kansas, one brother, Madison Holroyd Jr., and one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Maurice Wilkinson, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Jerry Thompson.
The family has suggested no visitation and the casket will be closed.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Cedar Vale Church of Christ, with Reverend Frank Quaranta officiating, followed with a private family burial at the Ozro Falls Cemetery.
