David J. Wherrell, 43, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Friday (December 8, 2006) while working on a rural water line.
He was born November 2, 1963 in Sedgwick, Kansas. He grew up in Wichita attending St. John Catholic School, Mayberry Jr. High and graduating from West High School in Wichita. While in high school he played baseball and football.
David moved to Dearing in 1995 working for the City of Dearing from 1999 to 2002 when he began working for the City of Coffeyville as a waste water operator. He also worked part time for Rural Water District #11.
On February 6, 2004 he married Lynette (Reynolds) Cox at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area.
He was a member of Tyro Christian Church.
David enjoyed fishing, working on computers, and following the Kansas City Chiefs and Notre Dame football teams. He especially enjoyed coaching his daughters softball teams, being a leader for his sons Cub Scout Troop #5, and camping with his son and all the cub scouts.
He was also a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #123.
Survivors include his wife, Lynette of the home; two daughters, Lauren and Tandi both of the home; one son Tyler of the home; his mother, Marian Wherrell of Wichita; three sisters Dionne (Jerry) Means of Wichita, Stephanie (Jim) Crisler of Wellington, and Michelle (Sean) Mullins of Wellington; one brother, Steven (Tina) Wherrell of Wichita; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Gwen Reynolds of Coffeyville; his sister-in-law, Michelle (Jim) Stoughton at Centerville, IN; and his brother-in-law, Craig (Trisha) Reynolds of Glenpool, OK. He was preceded in death by his father Wilbur Wherrell and his daughter Parker Gwendolyn Wherrell on August 3, 2006.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday (December 15, 2006) in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family requests memorials to the David Wherrell Memorial Fund, contributions may be left with the funeral home.
