Sedan -
Beaulah L. Utt, age 86 of Winfield, formerly of Cedar Vale, passed away quietly on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Winfield Rest Haven Nursing Home in Winfield, Kansas.
Beaulah was born April 5, 1920 to Harry Oliver and Della Merle (White) Cox in Ashton, Kansas. She was raised in the Ashton, Geuda Springs area in Sumner County where she attended her early years of school. In 1937, she and her family moved to the Otto community. She finished her schooling at Cedar Vale and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1939. After graduating from school, Beaulah was employed at the Cedar Vale Bakery.
She married Grant C. Utt January 10, 1941 in Cedar Vale, Kansas. From this union came two daughters Ula Marie and Ola Jean. Beaulah had 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Beaulah and Grant spent most of their married life in Cedar Vale except for the short time they spent in Fort Lewis, Washington and Camp Carson, Colorado while Grant was in the army. Beaulah and her husband Grant bought and ran Utt Produce from 1952 to 1959. They purchased a farm west of Cedar Vale and for several years had over 7,000 caged layers. Beaulah worked at the Cedar Vale Hospital from 1966 to 1986 when she retired. While at the hospital, she worked in the dietary department, the laundry and housekeeping department.
Beaulah was a loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her giving soul caused her to sacrifice much for family and friends without complaints. Beaulah and Grant were members of the Old Time Fiddlers Association and enjoyed camping and going to the area dances held by the Old Time Fiddlers. Although Beaulah could no longer dance, she enjoyed going and listening to the music. Beaulah was an avid crafter throughout her life making many beautiful crocheted items. She also enjoyed embroidery, quilting, plastic canvas and sewing, but crocheting was her first love. Up until her death, her crocheted items were still receiving awards. She enjoyed sharing many of her craft items with family and friends.
Beaulah is survived by her daughter Ola Utt, son-in-law Jerry Walker, her four grandchildren Brenda Myers, Freda Speers, John Walker and Beverly Tolle, her nine great grandchildren Amber Corbett, Dallas Myers, Andrew, William, and Emma Speers, Kayla Kirchner, Kendra Walker, Makayla and Mitchell Tolle all of Cedar Vale; two brothers Linza Cox of Oakdale, California, Virgil Dean Cox of Haysville, Kansas; two sisters, Vivian Reschke of Enterprise, Kansas and Ruelena McGlasson of Wakeeny, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Beaulah was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Della Cox, her husband Grant in 1994, one daughter Ula in 2005, two brothers Raymond and Glenn Cox.
