Coffeyville - Jack P. Pfister, 90, a longtime Coffeyville resident passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Labette Health in Parsons, KS. He was born January 29, 1923, at Coffeyville to Leo and Hazel (Pfister) Morgan. When Jack, his brother and sister were young their mother died and they were adopted and raised by their uncle and aunt Stafford and Merle Pfister. Jack grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School where he was active in sports. Jack was a veteran of World War II serving the U.S. Navy. On November 4, 1944 he married Helen Shea at Miami, FL. Following Jack's discharge from the Navy in 1946 they returned to Coffeyville to make their home. Jack was a metallurgist at Acme Foundry for many years until retiring in 1988. Following his retirement Jack and Helen continued to make their home in Coffeyville and at Grand Lake, OK where Jack delivered Meals on Wheels, until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons in 2008. His wife Helen preceded him in death on April 1, 2010. Jack was a longtime member Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. He enjoyed fishing, and running, was a charter member of the Coffeyville Running Club, after moving to the Good Samaritan Center he enjoyed performing Karaoke, and was president of the residence association at the Good Samaritan Center, but his greatest loved was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and spending time with his family. Survivors include one son, Hook Pfister and wife Barbara of Coffeyville; one daughter, Connie Lee of Coffeyville; one brother, Frank Pfister and wife Donna of Coffeyville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; one daughter, Judy Booth; and two sisters. A Rosary Vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Friends may sign the register book on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
