Obituary of Mary Jo Floyd

Sedan - Mary Jo Floyd, age 85, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas. She was born April 25, 1921 in Sedan, Kansas to Michael and LaFayen (Smock) Stricklin. She grew up and attended school in Sedan. She went to Pittsburg State College, earning her B.A. there. She married Glen Floyd, M.D. on August 29, 1943 in Sedan, Kansas. She then followed him as he began his career as an ophthalmologist. He preceded her in death in 1995. She taught first and second grades in Sedan during World War II. She later worked at Boeing on B52's and P51 Mustangs. She belonged to many civic activities in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and enjoyed time with her children and traveling extensively with them and friends. She is survived by one son, Michael A. Floyd and wife Tina of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters, Lajeanne Floyd of Frederick, Maryland and Zoe Baldwin of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Matthew, Travis and David Floyd and one great-granddaughter, Mallory Floyd. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. Glen Floyd. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Penny Goldberg officiating. The family has suggested memorial contributions to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left with the funeral home.
