Obituary of Rose Mary Wishall

Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Coffeyville - Rose Mary Wishall, age 99, died on October 4, 2006, at Coffeyville, Kansas. Mrs. Wishall was born November 22, 1906, in Segundo, Colorado, to John and Alice (Bulger) Riley. When Mrs. Wishall was four years old, her father decided that a railroad town like Segundo was not the kind of place where he wanted to raise his family. Consequently, he moved them back to Kansas and purchased a farm on Coal Creek, south of Independence. This property is now part of Montgomery County State Lake. Mrs. Wishall graduated from Independence High School in 1926. After high school, she taught for six years at area schools, including Harmony, Harrisonville, Sunflower, and Clymore. During the summers, she attended Pittsburg Teachers College. She married Paul Wishall on October 12, 1932, in St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Independence. They operated a dairy and grew wheat and other crops. The farm has been in the Wishall family for over 100 years. She played the piano by "ear," having had no formal music lessons. She played a pump organ at All Saint's Catholic Church in Liberty for many years, until the church was closed in 1992. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and belonged to the Altar Society. She also served for a number of years on the Cherokee Township Election Board. Survivors include eight children: Joan Phillips (Ben), Dodge City; John (Cathey), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Pat Muller (Larry), Coffeyville; Kathleen Dunn (Bob), Pittsfield, Illinois; Rose Marie Robinson, Dodge City; Teresa Frieze (Tom), Shawnee Mission; Mike Wishall (Beth), Pittsburg; Bernadette Bilderback (John), Altamont. Survivors also include 31 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Jane Ullom, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, an infant son Joseph, a granddaughter Michelle, and three brothers Ed, Raymond, and Leo Riley. . The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday (October 6, 2006) at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (October 7, 2006) in the Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Father Jerome Spexarth will officiate.
