Inez A. (Pennington) Hyden, age 100, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 3, 2006 at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan.
She was born May 31, 1906 in Long Lane, Missouri to Joseph Lee and Nancy (Flannagan) Haney, the youngest of five children. The family moved to Eureka, Kansas where she received her education. During her senior year of high school, she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. She worked there until she married Francis "Virgil" Pennington on May 26, 1925, and to this union was born a daughter, Patricia. Inez devoted her life to her family. In 1941, she returned to work for Southwestern Bell. Her husband preceded her in death in 1958. In 1960, she married Victor M. Hyden and then moved to Winfield where she was transferred by Southwestern Bell. Victor preceded her in death in 1969. She remained in Winfield until her retirement from Southwestern Bell in 1974, and then moved to Sedan to be near her daughter and family. She was a member of the Sedan United Methodist Church, Telephone Pioneers and in past years was an active member of Sedan Senior Citizens, which she enjoyed until her health failed.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat and son-in-law Ed Morton of Sedan, Kansas; one grandson, Mark Lee Morton of Elgin, Kansas and one step-grandson, Mason of El Reno, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Nancy; her first husband Virgil and her second husband Victor; one grandson, Michael Morton who passed away March 3, 1977 and one step-great-grandson, Ben Ware who passed away October 1, 2005.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2006 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Sedan United Methodist Church, Sedan Senior Citizens or the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and these remembrances may be left at the funeral home.
