Obituary of Beatrice Coffey

Sedan - Coffey, Beatrice Naomi born January 29, 1928, died August 18, 2006. Service 10 A.M. Wednesday, Aug.23, Wauneta United Methodist Church, in Wauneta, KS. Possessed of wit, humor and intelligence, Bea lived her life giving to others Family, friends and casual acquaintances were attracted to her gentle spirit and reasoned approach to life's obstacles. Bea expected the best from everyone, but she was never judgmental or reproachful when we stumbled. Her unwavering belief in the power of the human spirit caused her to reject cancer's death sentence and refuse to relinquish her freedom after a debilitating stroke. She was fiercely independent and iconoclastic - teaching her son to cook and her granddaughter to drive a car. The world is not darker for her passing, but brighter for the light that she brought to all those whose lives she touched. Bea is survived by a son Jimmie Felt and daughter-in-law Diane of Wichita, granddaughters Sara of Wichita and Katherine of Lawrence, brother Winford Brown and sister-in-law Ruth of Wenachee, Wa, sister Margaret DeArmond of New Orleans, LA, sister Marilyn Knaup and brother-in-law Buck of Pittsburg and sister-in-law Doris Brown of St, Louis, Mo. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left with the Funeral Home. Visitation is on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan is in charge of arrangements.
