Coffeyville - Everett Gene Bell, 77, of Coffeyville, died Sunday, November 17, 2013, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born July 20, 1936, east of Douglas, KS to Alfred and Bellveretta (Mason) Bell. Gene spent his early childhood in the Smileyberg, KS area, his family then moved to the Mound Valley, KS area where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school Gene joined the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War from April 21, 1959, until being discharged on April 8, 1961. On June 29, 1962, he married Sonja M. Ingram at Diamond, MO. Following their marriage they made their home in Independence for 30 years, where Gene was an electrician at Electra, Automotive Control, and later Dana. Following his retirement they moved to their farm north of Coffeyville where they lived for 10 years until moving to Coffeyville in 2006. His wife preceded him in death on July 23, 2007. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Bell of Coffeyville, and Shawn Bell of Udall, KS; and two grandsons, Cody Bell and Kyle Bell and six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Mound Valley Christian Church in Mound Valley, KS. Burial will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Mound Valley Christian Church, or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
