Coffeyville - Betty Lou Hoggatt, age 87, of Coffeyville, passed away Monday, May 05, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Betty was born on October 17, 1920 in Wayside, Kansas to Tom and Nina (Wesner) Jones. She grew up in Wayside and graduated from Wayside High School in 1937. In 1937, Betty attended CCJC and in 1939 she graduated. Upon her graduation, Betty worked at Jensens Brothers. In 1942, Betty was a secretary for a Lieutenant on base during WWII. During the 1950's, Betty worked at Continental Can as a personal secretary for the engineering department. She started working for Sears in 1958 and was the credit manager until she retired in 1988. In 1948, she married Jack Smith and they made their home in Coffeyville and adopted two girls. Jack passed away in 1978. She was married to James Hoggatt in 1981 where she found her destiny. Together, the couple enjoyed traveling to every state in 3 different motor homes, owned 3 motorcycles, and numerous cars. Betty enjoyed traveling, gardening, and crafts. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church until her health failed. In November of 2007 she moved to Windsor Place. Survivors include her husband, Jim Hoggatt of the home; two daughters, Kay Hicks of Guthrie, OK and Glenda Cornett of Afton, OK; two stepsons, Jim Hoggatt and Randy Hoggatt; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hoggatt has been preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Jones; and brother, Don Jones. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Union Cemetery east of Coffeyville with David Bycroft of Tyro Christian Church officiating. Turn east at CR 2000 and follow the blacktop to Union Cemetery. Friends may sign the book at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The casket will be closed.
