Mildred Esther Williams, 92, of Wichita, Kansas (formerly of Caney, Kansas) passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at her residence in Wichita.
She was born November 20, 1920 in Oil Hill, Kansas to Ralph E. Jones and Lula (Chase) Jones. She graduated from high school in Howard, Kansas.
On June 15, 1941 she married Leonard Williams in Howard, Kansas where they made their home in Elk County before moving to Caney, Kansas in 1970. She owned and operated a Floral Shop and greenhouse and also worked at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville for 25 years before she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 5, 1984. She lived in Caney until moving to Wichita, Kansas in 2001.
Mildred was a member of the Caney First United Methodist Church was also involved in many women's organizations at the church, was a member of the Business Professional Women Organization, and also the Garden Club of Caney; she enjoyed gardening, played rummikub and bridge. She also was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter; Ruth Depew of Overland Park, Kansas; one son, Lynn Williams and wife Marcia of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Vernon Jones and wife Clara of Howard, Kansas; four grandchildren; Tanya Depew of Overland Park, Kansas, Tamara Neff and husband Justin of Overland Park, Kansas, Damon Depew of Loveland, Colorado, and Cody Dikeman and wife Rebecca of Glendale, Arizona; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Hernandez and husband Nick of Overland Park, KS, Kaleb Depew of Loveland, CO, Blake and Rylee Neff of Overland Park, Jake and Abby Dikeman of Glendale, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Williams, her sister, Wanda Forbis and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with burial following at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorials to the Amedisys Hospice of Wichita, contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, KS 67337.
