Velma Ada Wood, 90, longtime Elgin and Chautauqua County resident, passed away Thursday (July 27, 2006) at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born March 11, 1916 at Elgin to Daniel Bryan and Nellie Ada (White) Jacobus. She grew up in the Elgin area where she received her education, graduating from Elgin High School.
On August 12, 1931, she married Everett Wayne Wood at Sedan. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Elgin area. Mr. Wood preceded her in death on October 4, 1992.
Mrs. Wood was homemaker and attended the Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Walter L. Wood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, George P. Wood of Glen Burnie, Maryland, and Albert B. Wood of Ulysses, Kansas; one daughter, Nellie A. Reed of Walton, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday (July 31, 2006) at the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Kansas, with Bishop George Wood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorials to Pleasant Valley Manor; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas St., Sedan, KS 67361.
