Orpha M. McCausland, 89, former longtime Coffeyville resident passed away Saturday (June 17, 2006) in Bartonville, Texas.
She was born February 18, 1917, at Thayer, KS to George and Rosa (Decker) Powers. She grew up on the family farm near Thayer where she attended school graduating from Thayer High School.
On April 23, 1938 she married Chester McCausland at Columbus, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Cherryvale, KS before moving to Coffeyville in 1942 where her husband was employed at the Co-op Refinery and she was a homemaker. Mr. McCausland preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1989. Mrs. McCausland continued making her home in Coffeyville until moving to Bartonville, TX in 2004 to be closer to her daughter.
Mrs. McCausland was a member of the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, was a Past President of the Longfellow School PTA, former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and Good Sam's Camping Group.
Survivors include one son, Wayne McCausland of Springfield, MO; one daughter Brenda Allen and her husband Tom of Bartonville, TX; one brother, John Powers of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Tim Allen of Sacramento, CA, Veronica (Allen) Field of Elk Ridge, UT, Stephanie (McCausland) Cole of Hernando, MS, and Stacy (McCausland) Cordova of Olive Branch, MS; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rhonda Kay Allen; four brothers, and one sister.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (June 22, 2006) in the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, with Rev. Robert E. Brown of Parsons, KS officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Thayer Cemetery at Thayer, KS.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville is in charge of arrangements.
