Obituary of Joan Greer

Sedan, KS - Juanita Joan Greer, 75, of Sedan, passed away Friday (May 12, 2006) at her home in Sedan. She was born November 29, 1930 in her Grandparent's home south of Chautauqua, Kansas to Simpson "Paul" Padgett and "Anna" Louise (Snyder) Padgett. She attended elementary and high school at Chautauqua until the high school closed in 1946. She then transferred to the Peru High School, graduating in 1948. She worked at the County Engineer Office and the courthouse for six months. She then worked for thirteen years for USDA for Wade Meacham and then for Robert House. She also worked for thirty years for the Sedan Limestone Company as a bookkeeper and later working for John Wall until her retirement in 2003. She married James "Jimmy" Leroy Greer on May 2, 1953 at the Rock Church in Chautauqua, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sedan, the Sedan Cemetery Association #9 as secretary/treasurer, Sedan Business Women, Peru Scholarship Chairman, Chautauqua Scholarship Chairman and Community Bible Study Group for two years. Survivors include one sister, "Betty" Jean (Padgett) Frettem of Tucson, Arizona and numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, James "Jimmy" Leroy Greer. Friends may call Monday, May 15, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 16, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Charles Klassen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. David W.
