Sedan - Emmitt Doyle Fuqua, 89, of rural Sedan, died Sunday (September 8, 2013) at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
He was born March 29, 1924 in Seiling, Oklahoma to Raymond Fuqua and Rosie (Hand) Fuqua. He attended school in Seiling, Oklahoma. After school he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1945.
On June 28, 1946 he married Willadean Jones in Texas where they made their home until moving back to Oklahoma where he worked for the Chapman-Barnard Ranch and the Drummond Ranch. They later moved to Nebraska and also lived in rural Wellington, Kansas for a few years until coming to Chautauqua County in 1960. He farmed and ranched all of his life.
He attended the First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed rodeo's, his cattle and horses.
Survivors include his wife Willadean Fuqua of the home in rural Elgin, Kansas; one daughter, Judy Riggs and husband Glenn of Sedan, Kansas; two grandchildren, Jenny Jo Carhill of Iowa, and Ty Riggs of Sedan, Kansas; four brothers, Norman Fuqua of Seiling, Oklahoma, Keith Fuqua of Canton, Oklahoma, Lael Fuqua of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Russ Fuqua of Seiling, Oklahoma; one sister, JoAnn Caulkins of Taloga, Oklahoma; Uncle Jay Fuqua and Aunt Polly of Sedan, Kansas; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son Rex Fuqua, his parents, one sister, and one brother.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be Saturday (September 14, 2013) at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Private Inurnment will follow at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery in Elgin, Kansas.
Friends may sign the register book on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorials to the Chautauqua County 4-H Scholarship Fund and contributions may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
