John A. Brinkman, 81, of rural South Coffeyville, OK, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 15, 1932, at Coffeyville to A. Lewis and Rosa (Miller) Brinkman. John grew up and attended school in the South Coffeyville and Lenapah, OK area graduating from Lenapah High School in 1950.
On August 30, 1951, he married Shirley Stark at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in rural South Coffeyville where John farmed and ranched, he also worked and was a manager at Peerless Materials Rock Quarry.
John was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but what he loved the most was being on his farm.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Brinkman of the home; one daughter, Diane Benson of rural South Coffeyville; a special friend who was like a son, Charles D. Brown of rural South Coffeyville; three sisters, Rose Robertson of Scottsdale, AZ, Ann Droulliar of Tulsa, OK, and Teresa Kemmerer of Ponca City, OK; one brother, Joe Brinkman of Lenapah, OK; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Catherine Vowell; and two brothers, Paul Brinkman, and Frank Brinkman.
Following John's wishes cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Inurnment will be in Hickory Creek Cemetery south of South Coffeyville, OK.
Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
