Gladys Opal Dye, age 92, of Okemah, Oklahoma, formerly of Sedan, Kansas passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Okemah Care Center in Okemah, Oklahoma.
Opal was born January 31, 1916 in Fredonia, Kansas to Louis "Dutch" Allen and Midget Maude (Connell) Van Horn. She attended and graduated from Fredonia High School and later graduated from business school in Wichita, Kansas.
On September 20, 1942 she married Robert Wayne "Bob" Dye in Wichita, Kansas. They lived in the Sedan area for most of their life, moving to Dodge City, Kansas for fifteen years and then later moving back to the Sedan area. She worked as a secretary for many years. Bob preceded her in death on June 5, 1999.
She loved going to rummage sales, gardening and planting flowers. She also enjoyed raising baby ducks and chickens.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Allen Dye, Sr. and wife Darlene of Corder, Missouri and Joe Michael Dye of Moline, Kansas; one grandson, Jim Allen Dye, Jr. of Corder, Missouri; one granddaughter, Sharon Marie Carlton of Magnolia, Arkansas and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob and numerous brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Crum Cemetery Northeast of Sedan, Kansas with Earl Tresner officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Alzheimer's Association and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
