Obituary of Margaret E. Thomas

Sedan - Margaret Ethel Thomas, 94 of El Dorado, Kansas formerly of Sedan, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Susan B. Allen Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas. She was born July 20, 1919 in Floral, Kansas to Sol Horton and Margaret E. (Cochran) Horton. Margaret grew up in Floral, Kansas and graduated from Winfield High School in 1938. After high school she attended cosmetology school in Wichita. She moved to Sedan after graduation and worked in a local beauty shop which she later purchased. She retired from her shop (Margaret's Beauty Shop) after 50 years of service to her patrons. On July 14, 1941 she married Arthur Thomas. They made their home in Sedan where they raised their family. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 8, 1988. She moved to El Dorado in 2006. Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedan. Margaret enjoyed helping with church dinners for many years after her retirement. She was a talented and inspired seamstress and sewed for her family including her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Sewing Saints at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. Margaret always gave generously of herself and many talents. Margaret is survived by one son and two daughters; Terry Thomas and wife Donna, Burns, Oregon, Sharon Robbins and Gary Niblack of Mountain Home, Missouri, and Ginny Perott and husband John of El Dorado. She is also survived by one sister, Frances Ruth Reese and husband Marlin of Topeka. She also leaves 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her 3 brothers and her parents. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and her parents. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the First United Methodist Church and can be left with the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
