Helen A. Sanders, 104, of Bartlesville, OK formerly of Caney, KS passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Adams Parc in Bartlesville, OK.
She was born August 16, 1908, at Dewey, OK to Robert and Lillie (Parker) Garrison. She grew up and attended rural schools in the Copan, OK area. After completing her education Helen was employed as a nanny for the Rice Family in Bartlesville, OK. She later moved to Caney, KS where she worked at the Laundry where she met her future husband.
On December 29, 1926 she married George A. Sanders at Copan, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Caney, then Chautauqua and Elgin before moving to Cedar Vale where they lived until returning to Caney in September 1985. Her husband preceded her in death on August 8, 1990.
Helen was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Caney, and while living in Cedar Vale she was a member of the Home Demonstration Unit (HDU). She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one son, J.D. Sanders of Cedar Vale, KS; two daughters, Georgia Ann Wise of Bartlesville, OK, and Dorothy Howard of Lubbock, TX; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two grandsons.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Cornerstone Church of Caney, with Pastors Brad Sanders and Bill Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Oklahoma Baptist Home for Children in Owasso, OK or the charity of the donor's choice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
