Obituary of Bobby Pappen

Sedan - Bobby Duene Pappen, 63, of Peru, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born December 9, 1949, at Fort Ord, CA, to Robert and Pauline (Parkman) Pappen. Bobby grew up and attended school in several different locations completing his education at Sedan High School. Following high school he joined the U.S. Army serving in Viet Nam. After becoming disabled in Viet Nam he returned to Sedan. On June 10, 1976 he married Alice Porter at Sedan. Following their marriage they made their home in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri before returning to the Sedan area making their home in Peru. Bobby was a member of the American Legion; he enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time with his wife and son. Survivors include his wife, Alice Pappen of the home; one son Shawnee Gregory Pappen of Peru; three brothers, John Dixon, ,and Leslie Pappen both of Ponca City, OK and Clifford Lawrence of Newkirk, OK; and two sisters, Shirley Parrett of Louisburg, KS, and Victoria Pappen of Newkirk, OK. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Peru Cemetery in Peru, KS with Rev. John Warring of the First Christian Church in Sedan officiating. Military Honors will be conducted the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Ft. Riley, KS. Friends may call on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
