Robert L. "Bob" Meeker, 82, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home.
He was born February 23, 1931 at Columbus, KS to Emmett D. and Gladys (Parsons) Meeker. Bob grew up and attended school at Columbus graduating from Columbus High School.
On February 23, 1951 he married Betty Jean Carlson at Eureka Springs, AR. Following their marriage they lived in several different locations while Bob served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge they lived in Nowata, OK for a short time before moving to Coffeyville in 1957. His wife preceded him in death on August 4, 2011.
Bob was Director of Environmental Health for the Montgomery County Health Department for many years until retiring; for many years Bob and Betty operated the concession stand at State Lake.
He was a member of Elliott-Funston-White Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 in Coffeyville, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. in Coffeyville, and Mirza Temple in Pittsburg. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with Betty, his children and grandson.
Survivors include his daughter, Robin Bustos and husband David of Coffeyville; grandson Logan Bustos of Broken Arrow, OK.his son, Robert C. Meeker and wife Normita of Las Vegas, NV; Benny Blalock of Kernesville, NC; and
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Gladys Meeker; his wife Betty Meeker; one brother, Charles Meeker; and two sisters, Clara, and Georgetta.
Following Bob's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service Celebrating his life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20 at the Fairview Cemetery Veterans Memorial Patio. Inurnment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
Friends may sign the register book on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Mirza Temple or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
