Sedan - Lois J. "Jeannie" Walker, 76, of Sedan, Kansas, died Tuesday (November 12, 2013) at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born on December 29, 1936 in Winfield, Kansas to Harold C. Ashley and Elizabeth May (Dye) Ashley. She grew up in rural Chautauqua area before attending Sedan High School. On October 5, 1953 she married Eugene "Shotgun" Walker in Independence, Kansas. They made their home in Sedan and Jeannie worked as a dispatcher for Chautauqua and Elk County Sheriff's Department for many years. She had many numerous jobs and was a Jack of all trades, she was a waitress, she worked at the clothing store, was a very avid people person and she especially loved Sedan!
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan. She was involved with southeast Kansas tourism, Yellow Brick Road and Yellow Brick Road Festivals; she loved the Wizard of Oz and dressed as the Tin Man for many years. She also was very active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years at the St. Charles School House in the Hollow.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene "Shotgun" Walker and parents.
She is survived by one son; Bill Walker and wife Linda of Coffeyville, Kansas; two daughters, Julie Bays and husband Dale of Peru, Kansas, and Janie "Sam" Carpenter and husband Scott of Sedan, Kansas; two brothers, Phillip Ashley of Arkansas City, Kansas and Johnny Earl Fox of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; one sister, Helen Erickson of Edna, Kansas; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, November 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Crum Cemetery Northeast of Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Gene DeWitt of the First Baptist Church officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorials to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
