Obituary of Paul Encell Apel

Sedan- Paul Encell Apel Sr., 81 of Sedan, Kansas passed away Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. He was born February 21, 1932 north of Elk Falls, Kansas to John George Apel and Eleanor Dryden (Encell) Apel. In March of 1932 they moved to the St. Charles area in Chautauqua County. In 1937 they moved to southern Elk County. He graduated from Sedan High School in 1950. He went to Oregon after for a while after graduation. He returned to Sedan in 1952. There he met Deloris Lenora Hoskins and they later married in Sedan on January 3, 1955. On March 20, 1956 Paul started his own dozer business and also there first daughter Debra Elaine was born on the same day. In 1959 their daughter Sue Ellen was born and also born to this union was a son Paul Encell Jr. in 1965. Paul was a volunteer fireman for many years drove the ambulance, storm watcher, was caretaker for Greenwood Cemetery for many years as well as serving on the board of the cemetery. He also enjoyed woodworking, and was a member of the Sheriff Auxiliary. Survivors include his wife Deloris Apel of the home in Sedan; one daughter, Sue Stephens of Emporia, Kansas and one son, Paul Encell Apel Jr. and wife Katina of O'Fallon, Missouri; one brother, John Dale Apel of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Apel and his parents. Family and friends may call on Friday, July 5, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the First Baptist Church in Sedan. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. Memorials have been suggested to the Sedan Cemetery Association, and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
