Obituary of Jane Ellen Hills

Sedan - Jane Ellen Hills, age 84, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas. She was born September 19, 1929 in Leavenworth, Kansas to William F. Moderhak and Harriet E. (Shelley) Moderhak. She was raised in Leavenworth and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1947. After high school she received her registered nurse's certificate from the St. Luke's Nursing School in Kansas City, Missouri and worked as a Registered Nurse for five years. She was a devoted wife and mother. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On October 17, 1952 she married Leon C. "Pucket" Hills in Leavenworth, Kansas. They made their home in Kansas City before moving to Sedan in 1957. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 12, 2004. Jane was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan. She was a member of the ST. Agnes Guild, Bridge Club, worked at the Blood mobile for several years; enjoyed cooking, baking, golf, and bowling. Survivors include three sons; Scott Hills and wife Mary Ann of Sedan, Kansas, Tim Hills and wife Cynthia of Sedan, Kansas, and Blish Hills and wife Diane of Elk River, Minnesota; one daughter, Sally Newton and husband Bryon of Rural Caney, Kansas; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, two sisters, and her parents. Church Services will be held at the Epiphany Episcopal Church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Sedan, Kansas with The Reverend Foster Mays officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family has suggested memorials to the Epiphany Episcopal Church and those donations can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
