Joyce L. Mathis, 88, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
She was born September 20, 1924 at Glen Carbon, IL to John and Lelia (Willoughby) Weckman. She grew up and attended school in the Edwardsville, IL area. After completing her education she became a Beautician.
On February 15, 1947 she married Glenn H. Mathis at St. Louis, MO. Following their marriage Joyce worked as a Beautician in St. Louis, after moving to Minneapolis, MN she opened a Beauty Shop which she operated until they moved to Coffeyville in 1955. After moving to Coffeyville she worked for Medicalodge for 25 years before going to work at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center where she worked for 15 years until retiring. Her husband preceded her in death on March 25, 1993.
Joyce was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. When she was able she loved attending church with the Holy Name School children and helping at the school. She especially loved time spent with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Patti Mathis of Coffeyville; one brother, Clifton Weckman of South Carolina; seven granddaughters, three grandsons; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mary Sandy Estrada; one son James Randy Mathis; two brothers, Vernon and Bill; and three sisters, Margie, Shirley, and Mary Jane.
Following Joyce's wishes cremation has taken place and a Rosary Service followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Joyce's memory be left with Holy Name Catholic School or the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337..
