Coffeyville - Charles Eugene "Gene" Manley, 85, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Windsor Place. He was born May 3, 1928 at Chanute, KS to Fred and Myrtle (Simms) Manley. Gene grew up and attended school in Chanute graduating from Chanute High School. On November 16, 1949 he married Elizabeth J. "Betty" Ashley at Chanute. Following their marriage they made their home in Chanute until moving to Coffeyville in the early 1950's. Gene owned and operated Manley Transfer Co. for many years. His wife preceded him in death on February 8, 1974. Gene was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville, for many years he was the organist for the church. Survivors include one son, Charles E. "Chuck" Manley and wife, Donna of Coffeyville; four daughters, Christine Cook and husband, Jimmy Dale of Edna, KS, Melanie Sortore of Coffeyville, Jennifer Mallard of Thompsons Station, TN, and Laurie Piper of Winona, MN; nineteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son-in-law, two brothers, and one sister. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Holy Name Catholic Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
