Edith Marie Waltrip, 93, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Windsor Place Nursing Home.
She was born on September 28, 1919 to David and Lela (Stoughton) Prater in Nowata County, OK. She grew up around the Wann, OK area, where she attended Oakdale school.
On June 22, 1936 she married Dan Waltrip in Montgomery County, KS. After marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Dan preceded her in death in November 1979.
Edith worked at Cudahy Poultry, Taylor Bag Company, Bill Christmore Used Cars as a detailer for many years, she then worked at Windsor Place Nursing Home in the dietary department for 25 years. Edith retired in 1995, soon after retirement she went back to work for Windsor Place where she continue to work several more years.
She was a member the River of Life Tabernacle. She enjoyed crafts, making flower arrangements and playing the guitar.
She is survived by four daughters; Geraldine "Geri" Dubois and husband Robert of Arlingtion, TX, Ernestine Lee of Parsons, Audrey Meek and husband Martin of Coffeyville, Vickie Myers and husband David of Mound Valley, one son; Archie "Butch" Waltrip and wife Carol of Collinsville, OK, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, David Prater; her mother Lela Prater-Taylor; her husband, Dan Waltrip; three sons; Jerry Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Billy Waltrip; and three sisters, Bernice Gillespie, Floye Twitchell, and Mary Belle.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at River of Life Tabernacle west of Coffeyville, with Rev. Joe Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church.
The family suggest memorials to the River Of Life Tabernacle or the Windsor Home Care; contribuations may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
