Ray Griswold, 84, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at his home.
He was born May 27, 1928, at Coffeyville to Dave E. and Ethel (Young) Griswold. Ray grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School and attended Coffeyville Community College.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from November 1951 to November 1955 when he was honorably discharged.
On December 31, 1956, he married Shirley Dene Nichols at Bartlesville, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Ray was employed with the Coffeyville Police Department for 29 years, retiring on June 1, 1993.
Ray was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1022, Model Plane Club, Kansas Peace Officers Assoc., and the Coffeyville Police Department Pistol Team. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping, and doing yard work, but what he loved the most was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; one son, Brian Ray Griswold of Coffeyville; one daughter, Tracy Dene Sandon of Bettendorf, IA; one step-daughter, Linda Sheline of Oklahoma; one sister, Phyllis Ann Toon of Jacksonville, AR; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Orphena Sue Stewart Buchele.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Passwater officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A. F. & A.M. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with Military Honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.
Friends may call on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
